Mission

The Communications Systems Engineer contributes to the design and deployment of secure, resilient communication infrastructures capable of operating in demanding operational environments.

The role focuses on developing communication architectures that preserve reliability, redundancy, and operational continuity in contexts where conventional telecommunications infrastructure may be limited, degraded, or compromised.

Working across innovation and operational domains, the position supports the development of field-deployable communication systems enabling coordination, situational awareness, and operational resilience across geographically distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy resilient communication systems for complex operational environments
• Develop distributed communication architectures ensuring redundancy and operational continuity
• Engineer solutions across radio, mesh, satellite, and hybrid communication infrastructures
• Develop and test mesh networking systems supporting decentralised field communication
• Contribute to the integration of low-power long-range communication technologies and distributed radio networks
• Evaluate emerging technologies including software-defined radio, autonomous communication nodes, and deployable relay systems
• Support operational teams in the deployment and use of specialised communication equipment
• Conduct testing and validation of communication systems in laboratory and field conditions
• Document system architecture, operational procedures, and deployment protocols

Expectations

Candidates must demonstrate strong technical capability in communications engineering together with the ability to design networks that operate reliably under challenging operational conditions.

Experience in telecommunications engineering, radio communications, mesh networking, or resilient distributed communication architectures is highly valued.

Familiarity with technologies such as mesh radio networks (MANET), low-power long-range radio systems (LoRa or similar), software-defined radio platforms, satellite communication systems, and hybrid communication infrastructures is considered a strong advantage.

The role requires practical engineering capability and the ability to design systems capable of operating in infrastructure-limited, remote, or degraded communication environments.

Remuneration structures are competitive within their respective domains and may include fixed compensation, performance-based components, and long-term participation depending on the nature of the mandate. Titles and past experience are considered, but capability is confirmed only through demonstrated performance. 

All candidates progressing beyond the initial review undergo structured evaluation designed to verify the capabilities required for the role. Depending on the domain, this assessment may include analytical discussion, technical demonstrations, scenario-based reasoning, and practical exercises reflecting the environments in which the Group operates.

Where relevant, candidates may also be required to complete physical assessments aligned with the operational demands of the position. These evaluations ensure that competence, judgement, and preparedness meet the standards expected within Golem Group International.
